Well, earlier it was Yamato, this morning Pacific fell victim to the strange and cryptic house decay bug. Origin quickly reverted to an earlier backup.
There’s been some speculation that this is a result of the DoS (Denial of Service, not Disk operating System) attacks Origin’s been hit with. Personally, I would lean heavily against this theory. And you had better hope it isn’t.
Well, unless I’m way off base, housing and other dynamic parts of the landscape are stored on database servers. The same database servers that store character data.
Needless to say, obtaining access to these databases would be the Holy Grail of any expl0it kiDDie. And you can damn well bet Origin has those puppies locked up tight. I mean, if they go down, their business goes down.
And if someone’s found a way to corrupt those databases — well, that means everything is fair game. And since we haven’t seen a guild running around with 32000 of every stat and skill, we can hope that this hasn’t in fact taken place.
