(which is now gone!)

And to follow up from an article several years old: since moving my email to Gmail, my perceptible spam has disappeared. Unfortunately it's still eating resources - it's now estimated that 95% of all traffic on *the entire internet* is now spam. That's not a trivial cost.

I have bought money from a gold farmer. In Eve online. I used it as seed money to start my manufacturing business, and multiplied it by a factor of 10 over 2 months. I have no complaints about the transaction or the fact that other people were farming; it was a level playing field. It didn't corrupt the game, any more than imports corrupt the US economy - and if you think they do, better take that cheap TV back to Wal-Mart.

I did have complaints about the monopolies created by T2 blueprints, a perfectly legal but fundamentally unfair part of the game.

I hate spam, but gmail filters it pretty well. I hate junk mail, but I bought a shredder and don't fear it anymore. I delight at feeding pizza hut menus and solar power generation ads into it and sending them off for recycling.

There are more important things to rage over. And seriously, you complain about having to check your mail every day? Who doesn't check their mail daily? Really, there are more important things to worry about. You aren't crazy, you just seem to prioritize what's readily visible to you - in your in-box, as it were - as more important than things that are of genuine substance and import.

To address your suggestions:

1. I agree that games should be fun, involving, and not repetitive or easily bottable. Trying to constantly damn up the path of least resistance in the name of balance will make your players rightly hate you, however. An area can only be 'out of whack' in relation to all the other areas.

2. Not only impossible, but inherently unfair. It's a waste of time spending money on stopping farming when you could simply make farming impossible by design. Yes, I know how to do this. It would take too long to explain, unfortunately.

3. I could explain to you why no MMORPG can have a mature and working economy, but it would take too long. Suffice to say it won't happen.

4. The response of the community will be as knee-jerk and timewasting as yours was. You can at least take comfort in knowing that I'm in the minority in disagreeing.

Finally, I can only lol at the comment spam on this two-year old article.
