Some endorsements you probably don’t want!

From a press conference held by the sysadmin of the Great Firewall of China:

Mr. Liu also said the powers that the Bush administrations gained under the Patriot Act to monitor Web sites and e-mail communications and the deployment of technology called Carnival by the F.B.I., which allows it to scrutinize huge volumes of e-mail traffic, are examples of how the United States has taken legal steps to guard against the spread of “harmful information” online.

“It is clear that any country’s legal authorities closely monitor the spread of illegal information,” he said. “We have noted that the U.S. is doing a good job on this front.”

When China looks to you and says “damn, we’ve got to get us some of that!” then you know you’re golden.

Of course, all of this talk about monitoring your email and browsing habits is nonsense. They’re simply freedom filtering your patriot packets.

I love that gif (jpg? whatever) the FBI made to show you what Carnivore did: happy dancing packets shaped like puzzle pieces limbo their way into a ‘filter’ that’s the size and shape of a puzzle-packet-shaped hole. Of course, the only puzzle pieces that this filter stops are the ‘bad’ pieces, shaped differently! Why, crimethink doesn’t have corners, didn’t you know?

Oh, Amber, that’s a nice turn of phrase.

Its the Carnivore, not Carnival program. However the FBI has scrapped it for a better and more improved/robust peeping tom system.

Again with a circus reference? Lum must have been bitten by a clown over the weekend.

Sounds like China just flamed the US. Quick, someone insert the, “Arguing over geopolitics is like running in the special Olympics” pic.

In other news, the U.S. military unveiled plans for “The Long War,” enabling America to sustain antagonism with its enemies forever.

Firecrak, as I recall they said that commercially avaliable programs were now more powerful and they used them. Kinda amusing.
