Ironically, I read this while waiting for a train in Seoul

A South Korean lawmaker is seeking to draw up a bill to prevent children and adolescents from spending too much time playing computer games.

BTW if you visit Seoul, don’t bother going to Itaewon, unless you like hanging out with other tourists and street vendors demanding you buy a suit. “Like free!” More later.

Itaewon is best at night, hit the “Just Blues” club and if he’s still there you’ll see a old korea man be the best live blues guitar player you’v ever seen. Warning: they do not water down the drinks there! And when your drunk and leave the place, buy some “Naki Mandu” from one of the street vendors, sooo good.

If you haven’t noticed, I am way jealous of your trip and have decided to live vicariously though your blog.

    10 million won fine?

    How much is a won?

  • perianwyr

What I love is people trying to sell me fake watches- even the real thing on me would look horribly fake.

  • Amaranthar

About won tenth of won cent, US.

So, that’s about $10K US dollars. Unless I have some 0′s jumping around in my head.

  • scottj

$1 is roughly 1000 won. A little less now because of the dollar tumbling like a rock, but you can roughly figure out Korean prices in dollars by dropping 3 zeros.

I love fake watches. They still tell time, their great for wearing places you wouldn’t want to risk the expensive ones… and generally affordable enough to have a new one for each day of the week.

If you get a chance to do any touring head out to the country areas. The northern areas, near the DMZ, and the eastern mountain areas can be scenic as hell. Seoul was to heavily crowded, for my tastes, twenty years ago.
If you get a chance to drive a vehicle just remember ” The road signs are only recommendations and the lines on the roads are only suggestions” govern yourself accordingly :)

    10 Million Won = 10,573.40 U.S. dollars

Google has a nice currency rate search feature, just type in “10 million Korean Won in US Dollars” (without quotes).

Neat trick, but for some reason doesn’t work with Vietnamese Dong.

Or you could use xe.com, but where’s the fun in that!

So they still have cheap suits in the future? Cool…

I would certainly not visit Itaewon as a tourist, but it is a great place to buy $15 socks for around $2.
