    It wasn’t journalism, and I didn’t like it. It was feeding the egomania and need for publicity that Phelps and his asshole followers crave. Best just to end any coverage of these fuckers and let the veterans/bikers take care of ‘em without police intervention. I know were I chief of police in some town with a military funeral going on I’d make sure that all my guys were in the coffee shop with no real reason to come on out.

    There’s got to be some town out there where the chief of police feels likewise.

    Well hopefully the police are more responsible than that. I don’t know why people get so mad at them. I’m an Iraq veteran and I don’t care. They’re obviously just crazy. Forget about them and they’ll go away.

    Anyways there needs to be a “Speak Freely” card implemented in America… whereby you can only speak freely when you’ve gone and given yourself in service to this country. Otherwise STFU and don’t bitch when some military guys come to fuck you up. We know how to fight.

    I’ll agree that a lot of it was just pointless shouting. Unprofessional Journalism at best. Their’s another video about another Fox program where at least the reporters seem to be more professional about their dismissal of this womans and her orginizations practices. In general though, I agree that giving these fanatics a microphone was the worst thing to do period. It just helps drive their subscriptions up.

    On the one hand the woman is a nut and needs a good public smacking down. She got browbeat pretty well and repeatedly saying “Now listen here missy…” didn’t help her.

    On the other… unprofessional doesn’t cover it. News shows, for all the crap they sling, do nothing for themselves or anyone else when they resort to shouting. Honestly, I felt like they needed to cat-fight it out about two mins in. Didn’t even finish it because it was getting circular and annoying.

    But for those of you who think this is unique to Fox News… every single news interview program on every news channel runs essentially the same. You have two people who really aren’t debating a point, they’re shooting for “best sound bite” and that typically means you attack the other person and leave them having to defend themselves the entire time so they can never get a word in edgewise (James Carville is a master and perhaps pioneer of this technique). Makes you look like you won even though you never really discussed the issue. This video is a major case in point. Even if Ms Nutjob had indeed had a leg to stand on she never could have gotten that far because the reporter constantly attacked her. You’ll note she was on the defensive the entire time.

    I really haven’t read too much about these people. Am I correct in my understanding that they think America and the military is going to hell in a handbasket because of the gay people in the population?

    That crazy ass bitch kept going on about how her freedom of speech was impeded (however slight). Does she not realize that there would be zero freedom of speech without the contributions and sarifices of America’s soldiers (including the gay ones)?

    From these folks point of view, God did it all, so no, they don’t ‘realize’ that at all.

    I guess for me, I see this as a conflict in freedom of speech. Yeah, these creeps have the right to stand by the road and spew hate, but people have the right to speak over the grave of thier kin in peace, too. On the whole, I don’t think that it matters too much just which piece of road they spew hate on, and one out of earshot of the cemetary would do fine. It is, after all, freedom of speech, not the right to a captive audience.

    It’s not that they think the soldiers are gay, or that gays are directly damaging the military.

    Their crazy-ass moonbat philosophy is as follows:

    1) There are gays in the US.
    2) The US allows these gays to exist, ie, does not stone them all as a matter of course.
    3) This has angered God, who of course hates gays. (yes, THAT site is run by these people)
    4) God is punishing us by killing US soldiers in Iraq and elsewhere.

    They are really just a highly refined version of the same stupidity that Jerry Falwell spews on a frequent basis (and then rapidly retracts when people call him on it).

    Fred Phelps has done more to damage his own cause than anyone else I can think of. Every time one of his people gets on TV, another few thousand viewers see the most ugly personification of bigotry possible, and public opinion moves a litle bit further away from WBC-types. So, thanks Fred!

    It’s unsettling how closely the Rev. Phelps looks to both “The Tall Man” from Phantasm and “Kane” from Poltergeist. Giving them a voice can, surprisingly, be very benficial, as knowing this level of evil exists in the real world helps to affirm any truly good faith or dogma one might adhere to.

    Very unprofessional, but pretty satisfying. I have to say, if there were protestors present when I was burying someone I loved, I would glady go to jail for assault. Actually, I would likely get off for emotional distress. While I normally agree with Gar, and it’s best not to sink to their level, some people just need their asses kicked hard.

    Insanely enough, Phelps is a registered Democrat (or was), contributed to Al Gore’s campaign, and then verbally knifed Gore in the back with a whinging protest about gays.

    Phelps isn’t really conservative OR liberal; he’s just nuts.
