Funny Interview With Funny Guy

Firingsquad interviews Jerry Holkins of Penny Arcade

FiringSquad: Since your site is so popular do you think your strip and comments have any effect on the game industry?

Jerry Holkins: We have readers who create games for a living, but I don’t think we affect it in a meaningful way, no. I wouldn’t call what we provide “constructive criticism.”

FiringSquad: At the moment, what are the biggest issues in the video and PC game industry in your opinion?

Jerry Holkins: See what I mean? This is precisely the sort of useful, valid perspective we don’t provide.

See, this is why I did all my interviews in IRC. You can drop the stupid questions once they’re found to be irrelevant and no one is the wiser!

That is good. Really really good.

It is Friday and nobody is here, so I actually laughed out loud for once.

You quoted the best quote -_-

I think at least Jerry provides valid perspective even if he thinks he doesn’t. The way he relates his gaming experience isn’t like what you get in typical reviews. I don’t know what to call his method (if you can give it a name), but while a normal review would be like “these graphics are AWESOME and the controls don’t suck!”, his reviewing is more like “When I squish a gorgon’s head against a wall, it fulfills the moment, and I am satisfied with my actions.” He comes away truly relating his feelings for a game. I probably wouldn’t give most of the games he’s ever touched a second look if it weren’t for his insight.

I believe the correct technical jargon is “Discursive Analysis”.
