Blog Tweakery

As you can no doubt see unless you read this from Bloglines or something, the blog looks different now. I still need to edit some things but at least this theme doesn’t make me want to stab out my eyes when I see it. Let me know via loud screaming noises if something broke.

Also, I am actually color-blind, so let me know if the colors make you want to stab YOUR eyes out.

  • http://azplace.net naum

    looks really nice…

  • phal

Didn’t know you were color-blind. How extensive is it?

  • Freakazoid

Your little topic images are nearly covering all of the “comments” and “permalink” links in IE 6.0 (res. 1024×768). They did that sometimes in your previous layout overlapping part of your post, but this new layout makes it seem like a feature.

I would also like it if you took this free time to add a “preview” function. I’d hate for you to clean up my HTML mess.

  • Evangolis

It looks good to me, but I’m colorblind too.

  • http://www.edgecase.net/devsite Cael

This is grea, Lum. I’m also colour-blind and it’s working fine for me. Very soothing.

  • http://www.cesspit.net Abalieno

    It looks too serious now!

I’m not colorblind and it looks nice. Very clean layout. I would make the font slightly bigger, though.

  • http://tidehorizon.blogspot.com Tide

too minimalist. Color is fine, but needs more chicks and explosions and stuff. This is funny: PS3 VS Wii

  • http://www.fiercekitten.com/ Georgia

Bah. You redid the site and my link still doesn’t exist on your site :( bastard :( no luv.

  • Steve

The alternating light blue and white background in the comments is a strain on my eyes, I think because the blue is too light.

  • Wanderer

Looks great to me. I just increase the text size, just control-mousewheel. I liked the links, etc., on the right, though … not a functional thing, really, more personal taste. I agree though about trying to add a preview function — I’ve taken to writing my posts in EditPlus so I can make sure my HTML works. Admittedly most people don’t need to go to quite that extent. When I directed a friend to the liberty vs. security thread, I didn’t have to tell him what name I posted under; he just looked for, as he said, “the novel-length comments.”

Freakazoid, there’s a simple solution to your IE problem: get Firefox. :)

Oh, and Scott … you STILL linking to back WordPress despite knowing what that guy uses your contribution to his Google pagerank for?

I think that covers all my stock reactions to things; remind me if I’ve left a knee unjerked.

  • Wanderer

Oh, one more thing: Too much padding on the right.

  • http://www.beafraid.com Hellfire

This does not offend me. I do so love designs that actually fit the browser window and not some sissypansy x by y resolution.

Also, slightly too much wasted space on zee right margin.

  • http://www.nut-shack.com/phpBB2/index.php Kithias

I like the look. Very clean, very simple. The new fonts are quite nice as well.

  • xzzy

Mark this as another site I have to tap ctrl-+ to make it readable.

When did microscopic fonts get so popular?

  • scottj

Colorblindness: hard to describe. The world looks fine to me but occasionally I get odd looks when I call something “blue”.

IE/post icons: *wonderful*. Should be fixed now.

actually fit the browser window: yeah, that was a requirement for me too. When I’m feeling ambitious I’ll probably hack up the comments window to match.

linking back to wordpress: it’s opensource, thus I link back to it. if he wants to use that to push cialis ads, I guess that’s his karma.

preview function: yeah, looking for a good one. the one on raph’s site I didn’t like stock out of the box (I presume he or Kristen hax0red it up), but I might see what I can do with it, again in my mythical free time.

font size: bah. learn2read. I jacked it up a tad.

  • bullet

    I don’t like it.

It looks a lot more “sophisticated” now, but also a bit generic.

I also don’t care for all the text shifted to the right side of the page. Doesn’t feel right.

But since you provide me with free entertainment, news, etc. I suppose I can get used to it. Eventually.

  • http://www.cesspit.net Abalieno

Actually it reminds closely my first blog site.

I would link it, but I’m too ashamed of it. The layout you are using is really similar. Colors as well.

  • http://ambernight.org Amber

I like the new look, especially the colors.

Colorblindness: I was helping a color-blind friend move a few years ago, and found a green shirt behind the bed. He said “oh, I was wondering where my lucky gray shirt disappeared to.” It was funny, but you probably had to be there.

  • Houri

I Like the new colors but the images do ‘get all up in’ the text and links if you narrow the window.

  • http://www.eqclerics.org Boanerges

    Lum has nerfed his blog!

I have to agree that the darker color for comments hurts the eyes. If possible I’d ton it down a shade Beyond that it’s not bad. And hey, it’s ad free now ;)

  • Freakazoid

Another bug: in your latest blog post as it appears on your front page, the picture of the beautiful fraulein is messing up your layout by being huge, overlapping your now functioning topic icon and squishing your text a little to the left.

Also, after some thought, I think I dislike this layout. Shadey blue is just… I dunno, not you. How about bringing back your old ltm.net layout? Or are you sick of that?

  • Jobrill

To be honest, I preferred the other one, but hey, I guess this still works. Liked the links and stuff on the right side rather than the left tho.

  • Wanderer

Overall, I’m much more concerned with the content of a site than the look, so long as it’s readable. On which note I’m grateful you haven’t gone for the new trend that seems to involve a skinny lil’ column of text about a quarter the width of the page running down the center. Web 2.0 = eyestrain. Then again, I like black backgrounds, so what do I know?

if he wants to use that to push cialis ads, I guess that\’e2\’80\’99s his karma.

Um … you’re forgetting the linkfarming? And the deception? And the … untruths?

  • Brian B.

Colors? It looks like grey, and little more different grey to me…

  • TPRJones

I like it. Although, to be honest, when I first opened the page I wondered if I had clicked on the wrong link. The exact phrase that ran through my head was “I think I must have clicked to some sort of gay activist site. Where’s Lum?”

  • Aufero

I like it – fairly soothing visually, which is nice after all the sites that like orange, red, and purple. A bit startling to begin with, though, since you apparently updated it in the middle of a reply I was making about kittens.

    Think of the kittens!

  • Megaera

Im stabbing my eyes out. :p

  • Wanderer

Maybe it would look better with more definite (read: saturated) colors, instead of the pastels?

  • Grim

Yep – looks tweaked to me!

Colors look, umm… colorful. That is, if you like gray and white :)

  • TPRJones

Oddly, here at home it’s shades of grey but at work it was shades of blue. Did you change it again, or is one of my monitors confused?

  • http://www.vinull.com Michael Neel

You’re not 2.0 until you round the corners and use a gradient.
