They Killed Ragnaros! YOU BASTARDS!

As everyone in the Internet has already told you, those wacky South Park kids will do their best to trigger World of Warcraft’s obscenity filters tonight. AFK Gamer has the best description:

Expect your guildchat to feature line-by-line dialogue recaps because what could be more fun than watching television with your game buddies and then seeing the same lines repeated in guildchat just in case you suddenly became hard of hearing.

As long as these quotes replace “Leeeeroy Jenkins!” (which I still hear in the occasional pug, and I play CoH for chrissakes) I’m cool with that. Maybe I’ll just skip watching the episode so it’ll all sound fresh and witty to me.

Leeroy Jenkins is a hero and friend to all mankind. Death to the nonbeliever who does not embrace the path of Jenkins.

    Hallowed are the Leeroy.

On-topic? Southpark has been surprisingly unfunny in recent seasons. Last season was finally on a solid upswing with such classics as Ginger Kids and that one about erections. One has to hope that skewering WoW will be done in a way that makes me sad and amused simultaneously.

*sniff* our little hobby is growing up.

The calendar can make me grow old, but it can’t make me grow up.

    ALABAMA MAN!

  • Freakazoid

Interesting that they got to make their own scripted movements and whole new animations. Where can I squish some heads like that in the real game? And expect that sword to show up sometime after the expansion.

I agree. It looks like Blizzard allowed them some special access to lampoon the game (hey, it’s free PR!). Considering that it was lampooning players more than Blizzard I’d say it was a coup.

The entire point to getting old is so you can afford to be the kid you always wanted to be.

The lack of accuracy bugged me. Sure, the plot devices were fine. But Pyroblast is a 6s cast not 8s. Why fuck that up? There were plenty of other examples as well. The inaccuracies which added nothing to the plot / humor greatly reduced my enjoyment.

Bala… were you just attempting to channel comic book guy? Or do you really get laid that infrequently?

The sword does exist…it’s called The Hungering Cold, I think…stats aren’t anywhere near what they said in the show though

  • Nicademus

Gotta love the fact that the sword lets you instantly win the game and thus quit, then all four keep playing.

  • Lietgardis

I was going to say something pedantic about loading data on the client, but I won’t.

It’s called satire. If it had been 100% accurate to real WoW it wouldn’t have been satire (or funny).

I’m guessing that the inaccuracies were a deliberate ploy to provoke exactly these kinds of reactions.

It was interesting that they got the bored “NASA technician going though the checklist” tone of the kids on teamspeak exactly right, though. I won’t have anything to do with voice chat or high-end raiding for exactly that reason…all the sense of fun and adventure and the unknown is completely sucked out of the game at that point and turned into some sort of dry, choreographed, rote process.

  • Nicademus

I agree with Robin, bring back 0l sk00l UO!!!!!

But Pyroblast is a 6s cast not 8s.

Just to be a complete and total geek for a sec…

Have you noticed that higher-level versions of spells often take longer to cast? And that he was said to be unusually high-level? Thus, it makes perfect sense that his pyroblast would take longer to cast.

    *grin*

That said of course, I don’t really think it matters that much. :)
