I just sold a WoW account yesterday on eBay … $300+ for 2 level 60 with tier 1. The auction was for 24 hours, it ended, I got the cash in my paypal account, and the next morning I received an email from eBay saying that they cancelled the auction and returned any fees that I was charged.

Needless to say, the WoW account info has already been forwarded to its new player and the money is on its way to my checking account.

[eBay founder Pierre Omidyar] does not play a day-to-day role in the ongoing management of the eBay marketplace.

And thank the gods for that. Back in the early days of eBay I got tired of auction snipers on dutch auctions, so I wrote the customer service address. (Yeah, I know, it’s worse these days and I don’t buy crap on eBay much anymore.) Anyway, I got a scathing letter back from Mr. Omidyar that basically told me, “Suck it up.” Once again proving that customer service truly is low on the list of requirement to be successful, even outside of the MMO genre.

And becasuse IGE has used venture capital rather than get bought out so far, they’re dodgy? Well, nice to know Mythic was a fly-by-night outfit when you were working for them, Lum.

I see you’re still arguing the case for RMT based on what you wish people had said instead of what they actually said.

Cashing out in eve is easy, you buy time cards with your isk on the eve forums and sell them on ebay for cash. Perfectly legitimate.

I’d love to see some actual numbers regarding how many auction eBay is no longer allowing, vs. how many additional auctions IGE is listing.

It’ll be interesting to see how that plays with certain people here. I’d be surprised if it stands for that long. It’s certainly discrimination which takes Ebay into clearly being an auction house rather than a broker. (Something they’ve barely skirted before)

Ebay’s move is a great step foward for IGE, make no mistake about it. And they are the enemy of games companies, far far more than individuals using Ebay ever were.

As a note, you can cash into Eve, but you can’t cash OUT. Which is kinda important.
