Forumfall!

Things Darkfall Expects Of YOU, Points 115-120:

115: Adding “_DARKFALL” to your Halo 3 tag
116: Bitchin’ forum sigs
117: Gettin’ your cinna on at the Cinnabon
118: Defending the honor of DARKFALL on random blogs
119: NO. REALLY! WE MEAN IT! Team Bastard Sword ASSEMBLE!
120: Reversing the Edict of Nantes

Just in case anyone was curious why an older blog entry was suddenly getting lots of comments. It’s like the good old days!

In the days of Shadowbane (the social movement, not the game), I was a bit young and naive. I defended the game on teh forumz, but only actually played one month because it sucked.

This time, I know better. I’ll mock Darkfall fans for their implausible vision and quixotic passion, ignore news on the game itself completely, and then maybe it won’t suck.

  • Freakazoid

At least the hardcore get another chance to eat or be eaten.

I’m still waiting for another crafting MMO. I don’t even HAVE a board to be a fanboy on, much less to organize resistances against naysaying blogs.

I always thought you were a Corpnews fanboi, F!. :P

I gotta say I miss the days of open PvP. That was also back when I

    1) Wasn’t getting laid
    2) Wasn’t going out to party
    3) Was generally miserable

I don’t know what that says about me, but that’s probably indicative of the mindset.

Now when I want open PvP I go play CS:S.

  • Freakazoid

Corpnews isn’t a MMO, but yes I post on that forum a lot. I’ll be sure to swoon with delight on that forum too, when I find the new MMO for me.

Ah good old days, I was a good little Shadowbane fanboi until five minutes into Beta :) (WTF! How the fuck do I walk??)

In my defense a lot of athe old flame war rguements against Shadowbane were along the lines of “Shadowbane includes open PvP therefore it will suck” (a rather stupid arguement) instead of “Shadowbane appears to be being made by a bunch of amateurs who don’t know what the fuck they are doing therefore it will suck.”

Hmm. I’ve been following Darkfall Online for a couple of months now since some other people pointed me towards it. I really wouldn’t consider myself as a fanboi and I’ve read this blog for quite a while now, I’m not here because someone on the darkfall-online forums pointed me towards it.

But I highly disagree with the whole “Open world PvP can’t work” . Because actually, it already does, just look at Eve Online. I don’t know about Darkfall Online and if it’ll be any good. I love the ideas about the game, but they have horrible PR and barely any info from the makers at all. It could mean that they’ve their whole team working their ass off finishing the game, which I hope, or that they just don’t have much faith in the game themself anymore and don’t dare to tell the public. I really don’t know. It could be a great finished game, that will slowly become a huge hit when it’s out or it could look extremely unpolished with the start areas already having a lack of everything or the game or the servers crashing all the time. I just don’t know.

What I do know however that it’s time for a game like this. I know it’s the future and I know that Eve Online will be remembered as the first game that pulled it off. Dynamic games where players can build up things and where other players can destroy it. Town sieges, battles, people being able to just spend their time in a city crafting things. A game where a player decides what to do instead of just following a rollercoaster ride ala WoW (which is a very good polished game, but it’s on rails). A game where the Developers just set up a balanced sandbox and the do the rest. A game where actions have consequences. It’s time for one. It’d be a huge complex game, but it’s possible to pull it off with modern day technology.

I can predict that a MMO that can introduce this and make the gameplay (combat) itself fun enough in a different setting than space (like Eve Online) will become successful. Perhaps it’ll be Darkfall Online, the mounted-combat I’ve seen in a video looked like a lot of fun. And otherwise we’ll have to wait a couple of years.

Corp COULD be a MMO. You just have to ARE PEE and such!

  • Wonderbrick

Please don’t let dumbass Darkfall fanbois speak for all DF fanbois.

“118: Defending the honor of DARKFALL on random blogs”

Why not? There’s nothing wrong with a little friendly recourse from the PvP crowd.

“I gotta say I miss the days of open PvP. That was also back when I

Yeah we should get together and party sometime man. I’ll mix up some rum and Haterade for us and we’ll get wasted while playing Vanguard.

Gonna p00n n00bs on the FFA server?

  • Sumyung Guy

Actually, I think Darkfall has everything it needs to succeed. After all, it apparently has really pissed elvish chicks on REALLY ugly pigs:

    what more do you need?

  • DaveN

Why does that chick on the pig have Teh Walken’s head?

  • Sumyung Guy

Because she’s HARDCORE man! After all, who’s more hardcore than teh Walkin?

  • Staryx

Is she looking for more cowbell?

  • http://www.beafraid.com Hellfire

Cowbell is PvE raid content, sorry.
