They've released a new game or expansion every single year since EU2 was released. Those lazy fuckers at CA can only manage one buggy (yes, TW games are also buggy) release about every two. So I don't know what you're going on about with "work," but it doesn't have any resemblance to reality.

As for the rest of your argument, well, it's pretty much a strawman. I never said anything about Paradox's intentions. I was just pointing out a very obvious and concrete financial/manpower discrepancy.

Hey, at least Paradox games are moddable in a useful way. They haven't quite put shackles on their own games, the most common practice (in several ways) in "the mainstream market."

John: if, as they've stated, they want to play with the big guys at the mainstream market, less crying and more work. Yes, "work", that thing they seem to have forgotten to do (good if you have modders that work for yourself).

Aesthetics aren't the point. It may look similar, but gameplay will be immensely different (R:TW is combat driven, whereas EU games lack finesse in that area). Not to mention the RPG aspect (this is apparently character driven, according to their lead developer) will eclipse R:TW's completely. This game will likely have more of a reliance on diplomacy, as EU games tend to. Let me tell you, if the "barbarians" had united effectively against Rome, which they could have, history would have been considerably different. These are the type of games that puts that power in your hands.

So you're comparing a screenshot of an early alpha from a relatively obscure developer to one of a fully developed game from a much bigger and well-known developer?

Uh, that just looks like a EU3 screenshot. EU3 has been out for some time. It's got some weird issues though. For example, I've seen major world powers lose wars to Central American tribes like Maya and actually become vassalized by them, despite the fact that the Mayans do not possess the shipbuilding technology needed to visit their new vassals...

I guess it was too much to hope that they were doing something without a number at the end or a colon in the middle.

You can bet the gameplay will at least be different.

R:TW answered the question as to how many times one can put up with hearing that "BWONG" end-turn noise and watching diplomats and spies move sluggishly over enemy terrain for a seeming eternity.

So R:TW has nicer scenery. Did anyone expect an EU based game to have great graphics? I may or may not pick up the game based on reviews but that's the same for any game I'm interested in.
