No, you're not going to get more legitimate when it comes to awards for games. We need more good games, not more awards.

Oh you're so right about these awards. I remember getting all excited, like when I heard the CPL would be televised live, and then seeing some of the categories and games with a chance of winning. Who plays those games, I mean seriously, I didn't know people really played those games.

Would it be possible to make a more legit award show for video games? Something like the oscars needs to happen, where the judges are the actors, programmers, ect. in the gaming industry. I suppose that would only happen if anyone in the industry even cares about wanting an award, like movie actors do. There's also the slight problem of video games lasting the tests of time, as games tend to be obsolete and no longer manufactured due to new console platforms every 5 years, whereas movies are commonly put out into new formats no matter how old.

Another option would be some sort of move by Penny Arcade to make their awards a lot more official. A simple ceremony could be held that snowballs into a national televised event after a few years. I figure this could happen, because they've been so successful with PAX and have accumulated a lot of respect over the past few years that it seems to transcend out of just a bunch of PA fans into the general gaming audience.
