Now THAT is a mod.

Texas gamer builds nuclear reactor in his parent’s basement

It really is impressive how low the standards of journalism have fallen. (a) This is a non-story. (b) It was written to make it sound like it was more of a story than it was. (c) The gamer reference has no bearing on the story.

This kinda shit is why I don’t watch TV news anymore.

Nuclear Boy scout > unnamed Texas man

I disagree on the (ir)relevance gamer reference though.
They referenced his mod hobby to qualify their assessment of him as a more-capable-and-curious-than-average tinkerer/whiz. It felt reasonable to me.

I’m amazed no one’s made the obligatory half-life joke yet.

I’m just wondering when the Navel recruiters are going to start showing up on his doorstep.
it usually starts with “SO how’d you like to be on a submarine?”

Or Pharn, more likely: “So, do you want to play with the real stuff?”.

    “the Navel recruiters”

They’re always looking for a few good belly buttons.

Bah, there was a nuclear reactor in the basement of the building at Kansas State University where I had to go to math lecture. It put out something pitifully small like 3 watts of juice, but it was a reactor.

The basement of one of our math buildings had a full-on Tokamak
