I like John McCain, and I’m in the “pop-culture gaming side of the Internet.” I know that doesn’t make me “cool” or part of the “in crowd”, but it is what it is. For an office as important as the Presidency of the United States, I kinda would like to have an experienced statesman filling it. I also find nothing remotely beneficial or humorous in belittling the fact he served his country during a time of war. It’s not for everyone, certainly, but those who deserve our thanks and have earned, I believe, a modicum of respect that is currently lacking within the “hip” crowd. And yes, I’m a Democrat.

If anything, the comments on this thread may help to illustrate why McCain (or his staffers, or his trained monkeys, or his robot minions, or whatever) might have the impression that people on the pop-culture gaming side of the Internet don’t like him.

@D-One: You’re right, I wouldn’t vote for a Democrat just because he’s running against John McCain. I would vote for one if he were honest, ran a clean campaign, and I could find some common ground with him. The only think Obama has going for him is that he’s honest, as far as I can tell, which is rare enough.

@Noel: No, only McCain is held accountable by the media for things his followers say, since the Republicans are teh devils. You didn’t get the memo?

People are outraged about one of McCain’s worker bees making a joke involving D&D stereotypes. Many (if not most) of these are the same people laughed their asses off at the South Park WoW episode.

I’m sure all the hard-working, D&D-playing, Obama supporters are just as angry when people mock/disparage/question McCain’s very real hell-on-Earth experiences in Hanoi. Let’s not forget that the man spent years in solitary confinement essentially role-playing by himself.
