What a horrifying vision of a future with bad voice synthesis and a degredation of editing skills!

Thats a really fine ARG, wish I could find the time to play it actively…

I’m a little put off by this ‘game’. Yes it asks valid questions but the way it asks them rubs me the wrong way somehow. There is something wrong and creepy about Superstruct, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.

Maybe its the fact that they’ve made deciding the future of humanity into a game, leading us to believe that the subjects discussed don’t really matter, aren’t important, and any decision made by us won’t affect them anyway. When the opposite is true in every case. Its all very well trying to engage people in deciding the fate of humanity, but the whole point is that they do that every day anyway!

I’m probably not making my point very well, but the main reason for this is that I’m not sure what my point is. Its like when you meet someone for the first time and within minutes you take an instant dislike to them, that’s what happened when I had a look at Superstruct. It may not be rational, and further invetigation may allay the feeling of dissonance and skin-crawling I get when contemplating the concept. As it stands though I don’t think this is a good thing at all.

    Errr ya…. whatever.

This is a really cool ARG, but has some technical issues. I wrote an extensive fake article for the famine scenario last night, but the whole thing was lost when I submitted the form into a “please login screen.” Apparently it logs you out very quickly if you’re idle. Meh. The form didn’t reappear in my browser. I should get that plugin that saves all forms.

Also: this is Kurzweil’s way of introducing people to SL0 existential risks. I’m wondering if he’ll be using it eventually introduce people to SL1-4 risks, which are far more complicated and difficult for people to understand or accept. Starting with grey-goo and moving onwards to Kardashev scale failures. :D

Mandrill – Your conclusions are the opposite of my own. I think making futurism and speculation about disasters into a game is a really cool idea. It’s closely related to the idea of a prediction market.

Am I the only one that while watching that vid was rooting for the forces of chaos in that scenario?

When a robot voice tells me about the future in a newscast with a pirate jack as the logo, it’s got to be true!

    We’re all doomed!!!

Exactly Klaitu, “this is not a game”!

More drones please. Less sensor spam.

This is why we can’t have nice things…..

First thing that came to mind was the cheezy news reports on the Starship Troopers movie…
