Oh, That Explains It

NCsoft announces record losses, blames Olympics

  • Mortarion

    It must’ve been all those people canceling their accounts to play Beijing 2008: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games. I know that I was excited when it was released.

    (Yes, it’s a real game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/10520/)

    I loled.

    I’m sorry… What? They could at least have blamed the financial crisis or something. That *might* have flown, but the Olympics?

  • Kyverl

    They did not have an actual loss, but reduced profits.

  • Dirk

    coulda been that Tabula Rasa was boring.. just throwing it out there…

  • syncaine

    In china players pay per hour, not per month, so the Olympics did in fact hurt NCSoft. Less players sitting in game rooms, rather simple…

  • Vaxhacker

    To reiterate #4, “50% drop in profits” != “record losses”.

    Personally, I blame the “failure to make games that don’t suck” on NCsoft’s performance.

    Of course, I would also attribute this to Blizzard, but it doesn’t seem to matter if your games suck or not so long as you have a lot of people playing them.

    @J

    Korean MMOs are Korean. Grind till you die. I tried RF Online and hated it. Do 20 quests get about 3 levels then you have to grind out 2 levels to get the next set of quests only to do it all over again. I’ll stick with something that has a lot more substance to it. Yes I mean WoW.

    I wonder if Richard is locked up in a hotel surrounded by jars of his own waste yet. Don’t forget to put on the tissue boxes over your shoes when you visit inside his place.
