Cryptic Bought By Infogrames

Champions Online and Star Trek Online now fully owned by Infogrames (who also own the zombie Atari label).

Cryptic’s titles were going to be published by 2K Games; Ten Ton Hammer got a hold of 2K and got a “Uh… they did what? Uh, we’ll get back to you guys.” comment.

Not too many independent MMO producers left; Cryptic was one of the bigger ones.

So, Jack Emmert moves on and starts creating City of Heroes 3 at his next company?

    Or champions online 2?
    … or GURPS Supers 1?
… maybe the Mutants & Masterminds MMO?

  • UnSub

… or maybe he stays on and tries for that bonus $20 million?

I don’t know what everyone things Emmert would move on, given he’d probably have to sign off on a deal like this as a founder of the studio.

I can’t tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing but the sale price seems perhaps a bit low.

And yeah, Emmert is unlikely to leave. If he did, it’d be great if he went to NCsoft, though, just to watch the wailing and gnashing on the official forums. :)

Wonder how the Champions Online beta is going.

Turbine, Funcom, CCP and a whole lot of Southeast Asian outfits, plus several more floating around that have yet to release their titles, like Realtime Worlds, Metaplace and so on.

Bill Roper works at Cryptic, too.
