I'm the same way about City of Heroes; It's a game I burn out from and come back to from time to time because the combat mechanic is interesting and the story arcs are sometimes fun to follow.

I burned out early from World of Warcraft though. I think it was sometime around Stranglethorn Vale, I encountered this overwhelming feeling of the grind - the realization that killing ten more rats is a terrible, boring waste of my time, and fled. I tried to come back a few times, but I never left the newbie zone. I probably owe this effect to having burned out from EverQuest and many of its clones long before I played WoW. Maybe if I took it at a slower pace.

How often I forget I'm spamming the comment threads of the blog of the fellow who wrote MMORPGs for Dummies. Having run down the whole post, I have to say that I don't see anything particularly unreasonable about that story -- yeah, like I'm in a position to judge -- what I'm saying is it's a very human story.

My own blog writing up until now has been largely procrastination. I'm sort of disappointed about games these days, so it's hard for me to write about them. I tried writing a bit about life... but I'm a bit of an oddball, I'm sure anyone who read those entries fled screaming in short order.

You've just missed the Edinburgh Interactive Conference for this year (has been lots of interesting discussion on the blockbuster big licence game model vs microtransactions/freemium this year) but there's always next year if you need an excuse. Plenty of interesting comedy to visit too. OK so it's not England but during Festival time we might as well be considered a borough of London.

Hai, Read your post, and wondered how I missed your blog for this long...added to my blog roll, and I'll be stopping by.

Yeah I am grossly ignorant on tractors, we need more posts on those.

"I’ve never been to England, by the way. Would kind of like to visit some day!"

You should do. We have proper beer, and judging from the official forums our WoW players are slightly less mentally challenged than those on the North American servers :D

"I’m sure vastly amuses everyone who assumed no one at Mythic ever knew where Midgard was."

Considering I was a Hibby and we didn't even have itemized dungeons at launch yet saw all the purdy weapons Mids had, we were fairly sure most of Mythic played Mids.

Pff, so you're why bonedancers were so overpowered ;) *ducks* Some people actually played in Midgard over in europe... tended to have more of them than Hibs.

That UO reference was pretty funny. But most I heard of UO was lag during its initial days, and never played except during beta (then there comes diablo)
