The Dear Leader Will Save Us In Raids

Apparently NCsoft, according to this well-written and fact checked piece in gamesindustry.biz, is blazing a trail in opening new markets to MMOs.

Sales in North Korea accounted for the largest chunk of sales profit – 57 per cent in total.

North Korea’s highly militaristic “army first” state ideology should work well in a full-PvP environment. It’s less clear how well they would be able to handle crafting.

    Lol.
Yes, this north-and-south thing is always so confusing … someone should make a computer game to help.

Lag is a real problem when you’re on a bicycle-powered computer.

  • Tremayne

Errm – so are you going to find “asshole raid leader rocket surgery with nuclear weapons” in your next search terms list?

Look at photos of that part of the world, made from orbit. The only place with electricity at night is the goddamn capital. And it’s a fake city.
    This news is… strange.

LOL a day later and it still has not been fixed.

Aion is to carebare for NK, they need Darkfall, the development team would fit right in :P

The fact that NCsoft West accounts for about 11% of sales profit really needs to be pointed out to anyone who thinks that NCsoft won’t just abandon the whole area if it doesn’t have a hit there soon.

  • 8on2

When you lay off tons of people and basically shut down entire studios your profits might be effected.

  • Angelworks

They corrected the story ;) .

  • UnSub

@8on2: Yeah, they might go up! ;-)

NCsoft West needs a hit and although Aion might provide a stopgap, it needs a hit that was developed purely under NCsoft West’s watch. But there doesn’t appear to be much on the horizon from them.

The fact that their Korean CFO is now head of the whole western operation strikes me as a clear sign that they’re preparing for a shutdown strategy in the west. A CFO’s role is cost containment. Jaeho Lee’s a smart guy; he knows how to save S. Korean money.

    @Wilwabbit
Of course, it all makes sense now.

South Korean plan for world domination:

Step 1: Invite the entirety of Blizzard over to demo Starcraft 2.
Step 2: Close the country borders
Step 3: Force Blizzard to turn out Starcraft games as the new national religion.
    Step 4: Savor Shangri-La
