You have a point there about how it’s more of a spoiled rich girl lyric than applying to somebody who has to live in the harsh realities of a ghetto.

However, that doesn’t apply to me, because I’m using the word “ghetto,” I’m not talking about the real ghettos in which people live.

I’m talking about the fictional ghettos being peddled by shortsighted musical stars that hype up immoral behavior and engage in complete blackspoitation so as to milk that monetary teat for all it’s worth.

The inane booty-shaking was definitely a part of why I got this overly ghetto-esque message. But lets talk a bit about the central lyric, “if you like it put a ring on it.” Exactly what kind of girl would refer to herself as an it twice in one sentence, then repeat that sentence to push it into ear worm territory.

Uh, no. For it to be ghetto logic, it would have to primarily apply to denizens of a ghetto. The attitude you’re describing is actually more pervasive in social milieus such as sororities and country clubs, where the women are accustomed to endless options and possess self-esteem to a perhaps excessive level.

If you were talking about the inane booty shaking in the video, that would be one thing, but you’re talking about the entitled, spoiled lyrics – which are being sung in a voice of someone in a position of power and privilege.

Just saying.

Beyonce is incredibly rich. The people she sings about in the song sound like they’ve got money. Nobody’s tossing around street slang. The song made it big primarily on pop radio, not on rap radio.

And yet the word you naturally leap to describe to in order to describe the song is ‘ghetto’?

Even if you don’t consciously conceive of yourself as someone capable of being racist, your demonstrated capacity for unconscious racism deserves a bit of introspection.

Yeah, pull the racism card.

I didn’t call it Ghetto Trash because Beyonce is black. I called it Ghetto Trash because the whole semblance of the lyrics are, “hey, I’m a hot chick who is going to sleep around with all the guys, and if you don’t like it then you should have married me.”

Which ghetto logic, at best.

Maybe not. I’m pretty sure I may have chanced at the original music video long ago, but it quickly become a repressed memory since it’s horrible mainstream ghetto trash.
That said, this video was a good parody, but anyone who is still that deep into WoW at this point is either bored stiff of it or new to the game.
