IRON CROWN FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY, BREAKS OFF CONTENT SHARING WITH MYTHIC [Author: lum]

One of the things most anticipated by hardcore roleplaying game buffs about Dark Age of Camelot was that it used Iron Crown’s “Rolemaster” rules system, thus ensuring that at least the game rules would be solidly tested.

Unfortunately, Iron Crown posted to their website today that they had gone under, and all their assets (including their intellectual property) were in the hands of their un-named creditors. Mythic responded with an open letter on their own site that they would be required to remove all “Rolemaster” material from their current and upcoming games, including Dark Age of Camelot.

Mark Jacobs, Mythic’s President, stated:

Given Mythic\’e2\’80\’99s long history of creating original intellectual property, we expect the changeover to happen very quickly and with no impact on either gameplay or, in the case of Camelot, of the development schedule. We are saddened by the loss of the tremendous volume of material that comprises Rolemaster but we are looking forward to the challenge of once again creating our own intellectual property for our games.

Hard to say how a development schedule can not be affected by coming up with an entirely new game system but what do I know? I just fill in for the small cute puppy.
