PLAY THE BETA NOW, KEEP YOUR CHARACTERS LATER [Author: myschyf]

Well I just got home from seeing Oedipus Wrecks (yes I know its Rex but really wrecks is much more appropriate) at the Shakespear Theatre. It’s rather like watching Ancient Grecian Jerry Springer. But that was fiction. At some point during the play I realized I was comparing it to Jerry Springer’s ‘victims’ which made it somewhat amusing even while I wanted to weep at the tragedy of it all. None of this has anything to do with the Battletech beta. I just thought I would share. Oh and Avery Brooks can kick Patrick Stewart’s ass all over a Shakespearean play. Whoa. What a performance. (Not that Patrick Stewart is chump change or anything.)

Anyway on to the Battletech beta. In what might be a first ever in the MMOG community, the makers of Battletech (EA.com, nee Kesmai) have decided to let their beta testers keep their characters to make up for wiping them during the beta. Which is a little odd but hey whatever. A paragraph from their latest community news reads:

V1.4.5: This version has the following changes and updates:

We have reset the player database and all players must start over again. The good news is we do NOT plan to reset the database when the game officially launches, allowing you to keep your Beta characters. (Note: There may be reasons beyond our control to reset the DB again, but we do not plan to at this time.)

Pretty damn cool. On a related note that has nothing to do with either Oedipus, Jerry Springer, Patrick Stewart or Avery Brooks, I’ve been hearing REALLY good things about this beta. Its not everyone’s cup of tea and I wouldn’t call it massive. But from what I hear the client is stable and the beta is going well. You can find out more about the game by going to the official website.
